eMily Monroe, Artistic Director

Emily Monroe, appointed Artistic Director of Richmond Chamber Players in June 2025, is a professional violinist with the Richmond Symphony. She is an active chamber musician and baroque violinist, performing with ensembles including the Richmond Chamber Players, Central Virginia’s Music Society, Three Notch’d Road: The Virginia Baroque Ensemble, the Wintergreen Music Festival, and the Washington National Cathedral.

In addition to her performance career, Emily maintains a private teaching studio. She serves as a sectional coach for the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Program and has previously taught at the Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan.

Emily earned her Master of Music in Violin Performance and Chamber Music from the University of Michigan in 2022, studying with Professor Aaron Berofsky. While in Ann Arbor, she performed as a section violinist with the Ann Arbor Symphony, served as Concertmaster of the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, and played in the Baroque Chamber Orchestra under Professor Joseph Gascho.

She holds a Bachelor of Music degree and a minor in Baroque Violin from Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, where she studied with Professors Cornelia Heard and Maria Romero-Ramos. Prior to that, Emily attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school program as a student of Professor Kevin Lawrence.

Emily began studying violin at the age of five with Ning Zhao, a violist in the Charlotte Symphony. She credits each of her teachers with shaping her musical path and inspiring her artistic growth.
