Emma Cary

Cellist Emma Cary is currently pursuing her Master's degree under the tutelage of Desmond Hoebig at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. She completed her undergraduate studies with Richard Aaron at the University of Michigan, and has attended music festivals such as Kneisel Hall, the Meadowmount School of Music, and Bowdoin Music Festival, studying closely with Hans Jorgen Jensen and Steven Doane.
Emma has appeared as a soloist with the Richmond Symphony, Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra, and with a student ensemble at Eastern Music Festival. She won the MTNA Virginia Senior Strings Competition in 2017 and 2018, placed 2nd in the 2023 Briggs Chamber Music Competition and was a semi-finalist in the 2023 Plowman Chamber Music Competition with Trio Amabile.
Emma is originally from Glen Allen, Virginia, and began lessons at 5 years old with her father, Neal Cary.
